From October 8 to 9, 2026, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) hosted the 19th National Scientific Conference on Fundamental and Applied Research in Information Technology (FAIR"2026), under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Future Development Trends.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Rector of HUIT, and delegates attending the conference.
The conference was jointly organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), and other participating agencies and research institutes. The event attracted more than 400 delegates, including administrators, scientists, and experts from Vietnam and abroad.
FAIR"2026 provided an academic platform for researchers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, and undergraduates to present research findings, exchange academic insights, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration. Discussions focused on artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, network technologies, image processing, mathematical foundations of computer science, and related fields.
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Thai Doan Thanh, Vice Rector of HUIT, emphasized that rapid advances in digital technologies, big data, cloud computing, and particularly AI are driving profound changes in scientific research, manufacturing, business, management, and society.
Dr. Thai Doan Thanh, Vice Rector of HUIT, delivers his welcome remarks at the opening ceremony.
According to Dr. Thai Doan Thanh, AI applications offer significant opportunities for breakthroughs in automation, data analytics, natural language processing, image recognition, and decision support. However, the rapid pace of technological development also presents new challenges concerning reliability, transparency, safety, security, ethics, and accountability in research and practical applications.
In this context, both fundamental and applied research in information technology play essential roles. Fundamental research establishes the theoretical, methodological, and algorithmic foundations, while applied research helps translate scientific findings into practical technological solutions that contribute to socioeconomic development.
FAIR"2026 provided opportunities for scientists, experts, lecturers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate students, and information technology professionals to exchange research findings, share experiences, and stay informed about emerging trends in the field.
Established in 2002, FAIR has been held at various universities, research institutes, and educational institutions across Vietnam. Over the years, it has gradually developed into a significant scientific forum, contributing to the advancement of fundamental and applied research in information technology while strengthening connections and collaboration within the scientific community.
Scientists deliver in-depth presentations on research directions related to artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, big data, and other emerging fields.
Among the conference highlights were the keynote presentations delivered by Prof. Dr. Do Phuc and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Triet, offering in-depth perspectives on research directions in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
Prof. Dr. Do Phuc is affiliated with the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, knowledge graphs, question-answering systems, fact-checking, and big data.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Triet is affiliated with the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). His primary research areas include multimedia communications, computer vision, intelligent interaction, and information security.
The two keynote presentations enriched academic discussions and enabled delegates to gain insights into ongoing research across various areas of information technology. They also provided a foundation for exploring emerging research directions and strengthening connections among specialized research groups.
Alongside the plenary sessions, FAIR"2026 featured seven specialized technical sessions: Artificial Intelligence and Applications I; Artificial Intelligence and Applications II; Data Science; Information Systems; Image Processing and Computer Vision; Natural Language Processing; and Cybersecurity.
The specialized sessions cover a wide range of information technology research areas, including data science, information systems, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and cybersecurity.
Organizing the sessions by research theme enabled participants to engage in in-depth discussions on research findings, methodological approaches, and potential applications. Together, the sessions covered a broad spectrum of information technology research, ranging from data science and information systems to artificial intelligence, language processing, and cybersecurity.
Beyond academic activities, FAIR"2026 strengthened connections among scientists, educational institutions, research institutes, and the business community. The participation and support of government agencies, organizations, and enterprises contributed to the successful organization of the conference, facilitated the introduction of technological products and services, and promoted collaboration in education, research, technology transfer, and practical applications.
Delivering the closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Rector of HUIT, affirmed that FAIR"2026 had successfully completed its planned agenda following two days of rigorous, productive, and responsible academic engagement.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Rector of HUIT, delivers his remarks at the closing ceremony.
Under the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Future Development Trends," the conference provided a multidimensional academic forum for exchanging ideas and presenting new research findings, methodological approaches, and technological solutions.
The presentations highlighted the potential applications of AI in daily life and industrial production while identifying issues requiring further investigation, including data, algorithms, reliability, safety, security, and accountability in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence systems.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, the ideas generated and collaborative opportunities established through academic exchanges represent some of the conference's most valuable outcomes. FAIR 2026 helped connect scientists, experts, and organizations while providing young researchers, doctoral candidates, and postgraduate students with opportunities to share experiences and develop new research directions.
Guided by the spirit of "Connection – Innovation – Creativity," the Rector of HUIT expressed his confidence that FAIR would continue to strengthen its academic contributions and support the advancement of science and information technology in Vietnam.
The Organizing Committee expressed its hope that the ideas, professional connections, and collaborative opportunities emerging from FAIR 2026 would provide a strong foundation for future research, education, and knowledge transfer activities.
Through these efforts, the conference contributes to sustaining academic exchange, advancing fundamental and applied research, and strengthening cooperation among scientists and organizations working in the field of information technology.
