SUMMARY TABLE OF THE PROPOSAL FOR OPENING A NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAM

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – DOCTORAL LEVEL

I.       ENTRY REQUIREMENTS, PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES, AND TRAINING CURRICULUM OUTLINE

1. Entry requirements

Applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree with a classification of Good or higher in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent qualification at Level 7 of the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework, or a master’s degree in the correct discipline/specialization, a relevant discipline/specialization, or a closely related discipline/specialization to Mechanical Engineering, and must meet the following conditions:

a. Have a clear personal background and not be serving a criminal sentence or subject to disciplinary action at the level of warning or higher.

b. Be in good health for study.

c. Degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures in accordance with current regulations.

d. Have a research proposal clearly stating the proposed research topic, research field, reasons for choosing the research field and topic, a summary of the domestic and international research situation in the field, expected research objectives, an implementation plan during the training period, and a proposed supervisor.

e. Have a confirmation letter of acceptance for supervision from at least one lecturer who meets the requirements for supervising doctoral research and has expertise in the professional field in which the applicant intends to conduct research. The letter must include an assessment of the applicant’s research attitude and capacity, professional qualifications, and the feasibility of the proposed topic. The supervisor shall briefly present the possibility of mobilizing research topics, research projects, funding sources for research activities, or equipment to support the research.

f. Regarding foreign language proficiency, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Possess one of the foreign language certificates specified in the table below, or other equivalent foreign language certificates at Level 4 or higher according to the six-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam as announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. The certificate must remain valid by the application date;
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree awarded by an overseas training institution, a branch campus of a foreign training institution in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese training institution for a full-time program conducted in a foreign language appropriate to the language required by the program’s learning outcomes;
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a foreign language major or foreign language teacher education major appropriate to the foreign language required by the program’s learning outcomes, awarded by a Vietnamese training institution;
  • In the above cases, if the foreign language is not English, the applicant must be able to communicate professionally in English, including presenting professional issues in English for others to understand and understanding professional issues presented by others in English. The Admissions Council shall establish a subcommittee to assess the professional English communication competence of applicants in this category.

g. Work experience requirement:

Applicants must have research experience demonstrated through a master’s thesis from a research-oriented training program; or through published articles or scientific reports in which the applicant participated as a member of the author group; or have at least 02 years, equivalent to 24 months, of work experience as a lecturer or researcher at training institutions or science and technology organizations.

h. Commit to fulfilling all financial obligations during the training process in accordance with the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.

2. Program learning outcomes

Upon completion of the program, learners will acquire knowledge, skills, and professional practice competence in Mechanical Engineering as follows:

2.1. Knowledge

  • Possess foundational engineering knowledge, core specialized knowledge, and advanced and in-depth expertise to propose solutions to problems in Mechanical Engineering or related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Possess management knowledge to build research teams and define team objectives, as well as managerial knowledge to organize and operate the scientific research activities of research groups toward the established goals.

2.2. Skills and personal qualities

  • Develop the ability to integrate scientific theories in Mechanical Engineering, modern computational methods, research design methods, and advanced scientific research tools to formulate research directions, design experiments for research, and lead toward research outcomes.
  • Develop integrity in scientific research by using data honestly, respecting research ethics, and complying with copyright laws.

2.3. Interaction skills

Effectively combine communication skills, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and leadership skills to manage and administer professional activities in group research.

2.4. Professional practice competence and autonomy

Integrate solid scientific knowledge with scientific research to solve urgent practical problems or develop new knowledge and publish scientific research findings.
