On the morning of October 8, 2026, the 19th National Scientific Conference on Fundamental Research and Applications of Information Technology (FAIR'2026) officially opened and proceeded to its plenary session at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT). Centered on the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Future Trends," the conference established a premier forum to explore emerging research directions while bridging scientific discoveries with real-world application needs.
Overview of the 19th National Scientific Conference on Fundamental Research and Applications of Information Technology (FAIR'2026).
Taking place over two days, October 8–9, 2026, FAIR'2026 was co-organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Institute of Information Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, alongside partner agencies and research institutes. The conference brought together a dynamic community of scientists, industry experts, academic lecturers, doctoral candidates, postgraduate scholars, and undergraduate students researching and working across the information technology domain.
Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi – Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, delivering the opening address.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Lang – Head of the Program Committee, presenting the proceedings and agenda of FAIR'2026.
According to the Program Committee, this year's conference received over 240 scientific paper submissions. Manuscripts underwent rigorous peer review based on scientific novelty, topical relevance in fundamental research, creativity, and practical demand in applied technology. The strong engagement from the research community reflects how critical challenges in information technology—from algorithmic and model development to practical deployment under real-world constraints—continue to drive academic inquiry.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Thai Doan Thanh emphasized that the rapid evolution of digital technologies, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence is reshaping scientific research, manufacturing, business management, governance, and daily societal life. Alongside immense opportunities in automation, data analytics, and decision-support systems, rapid technological advancement demands heightened focus on reliability, transparency, security, ethics, and accountability in research and deployment.
Dr. Thai Doan Thanh highlighted that fundamental research establishes necessary theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and algorithms, while applied research converts scientific achievements into actionable solutions that drive socio-economic development. The seamless integration of these two research pillars provides the baseline for technology to solve complex real-world challenges effectively.
"Crucially, the innovative ideas, academic connections, and collaborative opportunities generated through FAIR'2026 will serve as a enduring foundation for future research, education, and knowledge transfer initiatives," Dr. Thai Doan Thanh shared. Representing HUIT, he expressed confidence that the conference would open interdisciplinary research avenues, catalyze innovation, and strengthen collaborative networks uniting scientists, academic institutions, research centers, and corporate enterprises.

Following the opening ceremony, the plenary session convened under the chair of Prof. DSc. Nguyen Khoa Son. The centerpiece of the session was a key keynote presentation titled "Knowledge Graphs and Applications in Healthcare: From Multimodal Graphs to Traditional Medicine," delivered by Prof. Dr. Do Phuc from the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The keynote introduced theoretical foundations of knowledge graphs, multimodal knowledge graphs, and their expanding applications across modern healthcare. The presentation highlighted strategies for digitizing, structuring, and preserving traditional medical knowledge, specifically traditional Vietnamese medicine. Emerging research paradigms—including the convergence of knowledge graphs with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) models, precision medicine, and AI agents—were also discussed, highlighting new frontiers for data mining and knowledge integration in specialized domains.
Selecting healthcare IT applications as the central keynote subject underscored the deep alignment between foundational research and urgent societal needs. This interdisciplinary domain demands close synergy between computer science researchers and medical experts to design methodologies tailored to unique data structures and clinical requirements.

Following the plenary session, the academic program proceeded into parallel track presentations across 07 specialized subcommittees: Artificial Intelligence and Applications 1; Artificial Intelligence and Applications 2; Data Science; Information Systems; Image Processing and Computer Vision; Natural Language Processing; and Network & Information Security. These technical sessions provided a platform for authors to present research findings, defend methodologies, and receive constructive feedback to refine their ongoing work.
The conference gathered a distinguished turnout of scientists, experts, faculty members, doctoral candidates, graduate scholars, and students in information technology.
For HUIT, hosting FAIR'2026 provided a prime occasion to expand academic partnerships with leading universities, research institutes, and the broader tech community. The national conference offered faculty and students direct exposure to cutting-edge research, fostering collaborative networks and driving practical technological applications.
