Ong Sí Tuấn, a student of the Chinese Language program, has made a remarkable impression not only through his outstanding academic achievements but also through an inspiring story of passion and unwavering determination in pursuing his dreams. At the Graduation Ceremony for Phase 1, 2025 of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), Tuấn was the student with the highest graduating GPA of 3.97/4, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.
Born and raised in Kiên Giang in a fishing family, Tuấn’s life was closely tied to his parents’ fishing trips. Despite this, from a young age, he showed a special passion for the Chinese language. Fascinated by Chinese films and music, he gradually developed a deep love for the language. When applying to university, knowing that HUIT offered a Chinese Language program, Tuấn decided to pursue it despite initial hesitation from his family. Over time, through his dedication and academic achievements, he was able to change their perspective and earn their full support.
When asked about his feelings upon becoming the valedictorian of the Chinese Language program and the top graduate of the entire ceremony, Tuấn expressed his joy and pride: “I feel very happy and fulfilled because after four years of hard work and effort, I finally achieved my goal. This is the result of my perseverance and determination,” he shared.
Tuấn also expressed his deep gratitude to his family, teachers, and friends who supported him throughout his journey: “I would like to thank my parents for always loving and supporting me, the University’s Board of Directors for providing the best learning environment, and especially the lecturers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Chinese Language program, for their dedication in guiding me step by step on my academic path.”
During his four years at university, Tuấn consistently served as class monitor and received Excellent Academic Encouragement Scholarships for six consecutive semesters. He was also recognized as an outstanding Youth Union member and recently won Third Prize in the Faculty-level Student Scientific Research Competition, with plans to advance to the university level.
Sharing his study methods, Tuấn emphasized discipline and persistence: “I always stay proactive in my studies and never wait until exams are near to start reviewing. I pay close attention in class to fully understand the lessons, and then review them at home whenever I have time. Learning a foreign language requires persistence, because without regular practice, it is easy to forget. Every weekend, I summarize what I have learned during the week and plan for the following week.”
Even before officially graduating, Tuấn secured a position at a Chinese company with operations in Vietnam, working as an interpreter with a stable income. In addition, he works part-time as a Chinese tutor in the evenings, which not only provides extra income but also helps him further strengthen his language skills.
When asked for advice to fellow students, Tuấn shared: “Don’t put too much pressure on grades. Study sincerely, not just for scores. A saying that has always guided me is: ‘With persistence and effort, success will come.’ Be patient, because success does not happen overnight—it is the result of long-term dedication.”
Ong Sí Tuấn is a living example of that saying—a role model for pursuing one’s passion and striving tirelessly for success. His story is not just about achieving high scores, but about a journey filled with enthusiasm, perseverance, and a deep love for the Chinese language.
