Some journeys are measured by time. Others are marked by moments of transformation. For Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), the 44 years from 1982 to 2026 tell a story of generations coming together to build, inherit, and gradually move HUIT forward.
On September 9, 1982, the Ho Chi Minh City School of Economic and Technical Officers for the Food Industry was officially established. In its early days, the University's mission was closely aligned with the country's specific needs: training and developing economic and technical officers to serve the food industry in the southern region. The scale was still modest and conditions remained challenging, but it was from this foundation that a long journey began.
In 1987, the institution was upgraded and renamed the Ho Chi Minh City Secondary School of Food Industry.
In 2001, the University reached another important milestone, becoming the Ho Chi Minh City College of Food Industry.
Through each stage of development, the scope of education and training continued to expand. From its initial strength in the food industry, the institution gradually developed additional disciplines and fields to respond to economic changes and the increasingly diverse human resource needs of society. Alongside its growing scale, its training orientation gradually evolved toward a multidisciplinary model, closely connected with practical needs and the demands of the labor market.
On February 23, 2010, another significant milestone was reached when the institution was officially upgraded to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry - HUFI.
From this point, a new chapter began. New academic programs were continuously developed, while scientific research, technology transfer, business cooperation, and international partnerships were increasingly strengthened. The scale of education and training continued to grow, while training quality was gradually enhanced. HUFI gradually established its position as an application-oriented university, where knowledge is connected with practical applications and the development needs of society.
In 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry officially adopted its current name, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade - HUIT. The new name marked a significant shift in its vision and development orientation.
The University has since pursued a multidisciplinary and multi-field university model, continuing to build upon the strengths developed over many years while expanding its development space in economics, technology, commerce, services, and emerging fields. A new name opened a new chapter, built upon the values cultivated over more than four decades.
In 2026, HUIT celebrates its 44th anniversary. From an institution established to train economic and technical officers in 1982, HUIT today has taken on a new identity: more dynamic, more modern, more multidisciplinary, and increasingly connected with businesses, the community, and the broader transformation of society.
Forty-four years is a milestone for looking back at what has been built while also opening a new journey with greater ambitions and broader opportunities for development.
From 1982 to 2026, every milestone has represented a step forward. Every generation has been a part of the journey. Building upon the foundation established over 44 years, HUIT continues to move forward into a new chapter – stronger, more open, and reaching farther.
